Wolfriver cursed under her breath. "Remember our story!" she hissed to Hazeltear, tilting her head meaningfully. The warrior thought quickly and called down again to Ripplestream. "Yeah," she improvised. "The foxes took Pinestorm, so now it's a personal matter for us to find and attack 'em." Well, it's true... Wolfriver justified the answer in her mind. She really didn't like lying, but to continue the answer she now had no choice. "We thought maybe since we thought we'd seen some around here, we'd go up and take a look around to see if we could track them." Wolfriver paused for a moment, clambering up a little further. "Of course," she called down, "they're probably gone now 'cause of all our yelling."
Wolfriver hauled herself up the last length of rock to stand at last on the wide top of Korkea Maa. "Wow..." she murmured, looking at the huge dens before her with wide eyes. "That's big."

Ripplestream climbed to the top and sat down beside Wolfriver, a knowing look in her eyes. "Are you sure the two of you are enough to fight foxes?" the medicine cat knew that WOlfriver had not been telling the whole truth.

"Eh...yeah," Hazeltear shouted, and gazed up at the huge dens in front of her. "These wouldn't just fit all the Clans; I bet they could fit StarClan, too..." she whispered. Remembering what Wolfriver had said, she called, "Well, I agree with Wolfriver. All of our yelling must have shooed the foxes away."

"Then I guess you two should come down now," Ripplestream meowed mildly.

Wolfriver sighed in exasperation, and something in her brain snapped onto a different track. "That's an educated guess, not a fully investigated, definite statement. We haven't had time to take a good enough look around yet to be able to tell for sure. We'll come down when we're satisifed that there aren't any foxes." She turned around the rest of the way, staring straight at Ripplestream with complete seriousness in her eyes. "Look. Please stop bossing us around. We're warriors now, we're responsible for our own actions, and we know what we are doing."

Hazeltear sighed, thankful that her friend's quick wit had saved them again.Steeling herself, she forced herself to look over the top of Korkea Maa. there. i'm done, she thought, and felt giddy with excitement. Looking curiously at Wolfriver, she mewed, "Did you get what you wanted to do done too?"

Ripplestream sighed. After all, she was only the medicine cat and had no right to tell Hazeltear and Wolfriver what to do. "Fine, do what you want, I don't care," she muttered under her breath, so that the two young she-cats wouldn't hear. Bounding back down with amazing agility.

Hazeltear released a breath that she didn't realize she'd been holding. "Thank StarClan," she breathed, and looked down cautiously. "Are there any foxes?" she muttered, and stuck her head over the cliff. Suddenly, her paws began to give way. Squeaking in alarm, she clawed at the mountainside and was relieved to find that she could easily climb back up by digging in with her claws. She scaled the mountain gingerly, and sighed in relief when she felt her paws on solid ground again.

Wolfriver watched the medicine cat go, feeling a bit stunned. People actually do listen to me when I act mature, she thought numbly. The realization suddenly hit her, and she was about to grin, but an uneasy thought filtered through. Maybe I am growing up. Wolfriver shook her head, shaking off the thoughts. "Thank you!" she called down belatedly after Ripplestream, then turned to see Hazeltear scrabbling at the edge of the hill. "Hazeltear!" she called, sprinting across the hilltop as the younger cat hauled herself up. "Are you okay?"

Ripplestream crouched down at the bottom of Korkea Maa. Her silver blue pelt blending in with the smooth gray rock.

Hazeltear nodded breathlessly. "I just slipped, that's all," she mewed, and looked down. Exhilarated, she began to bounce up and down. "I beat Swallowsong!" she crowed, and turned to her now-more-mature Clanmate. "Should we go back down now?" she asked.

Wolfriver nodded. "Good." She grinned. "It'd be kinda pathetic if we fell right after Ripplestream left, wouldn't it? Especially since she was warning us about it the whole time." The warrior grinned again as she watched Hazeltear bouncing around. "Yeah, and I wanna be there when you tell her!" Wolfriver took one last look out across the forest. "Yeah, I guess. Let's go down." Padding forward to the edge of the hill, she began making her way carefully back down the slope. "This looks harder than going up," she meowed to Hazeltear, concentrating on her pawsteps.

ooc: Cloudmist made a post in the camp, so we can just reply to that. ^^
Hazeltear frowned slightly. Hesitantly, she mewed, "Remember when we were sliding down the hill? Maybe..." We could slide down it? she thought. It would probably be suicide, but she wanted to get down as fast as possible.

ooc- Hmm? Okay.
IC- Wolfriver looked around uneasily. "I dunno...what if Ripplestream's still watching? Or that Stormclan cat? We bluffed our way around a lot of the stuff she said, but that'd kinda blow our story to pieces. They'd think we climbed up just to slide down." Wolfriver's mouth quirked up in a smile. More quietly, she added, "Which, ah...wouldn't be far from the truth."

Hazeltear's whiskers witched. "Are e going to waste time climbing down, then?" she mewed. Glancing down, she added, "I can't see Ripplestream, or that StormClan cat. Pleeease?" Tail-tip tiwtching, she realized that Wolfriver had become the mature one in this sistuation - which was surprising. Usually her friend was hyper as her.
