Snowveil was hunting near the ShoreClan border. her white tail twitched with frustration as she sniffed through the bushes. Unbelievable! There's nothing. Absolutely nothing! She had been hunting almost since dawn, but had only caught an undersize vole. A bird chirped and the warrior looked up. A plump thrush was sitting just on the other side of the border, digging at a worm. Snowveil's mouth watered. It's just a pawstep across the border. No cat will notice, she told herself. Her green eyes flicked from side to side nervously. She couldn't see anycat. A quick spring, a pounce, and it was all over. Snowveil nosed her catch in satisfaction.

Wolfriver poked her heard around a tree, eyes searching the forest where she had just heard what sounded like a cat's movement. It'd be someone out hunting, she thought, curious, but the only scent around here beside mine is Stormclan... Wolfriver's eyes widened slightly, and she stepped the rest of the way around the tree to get a better look, but her vision was still blocked. Ears pricked, she crept forward cautiously as the scent grew stronger. Definitely Stormclan scent, and it was very recent.
Then there was movement ahead of her, and Wolfriver's eyes focused on a cat, crouched on the Shoreclan side of the border with something beneath its paws. She straightened, curious. "Umm...who are you?"

Snowveil froze as ShoreClan scent washed over her. her mind had gone blank, and she didn't even try to flee as she heard Wolfriver speak. "Uh... I'm... well... I'm nobody." She dug her claws into the grass, green eyes dull with fear. What a mousebrain I am! Caught stealing prey! The snowy-pelted warrior glanced down at the thrush. Its blood still stained her teeth, and the limp body was unmistakably on the StormClan side of the border. StarClan help me!

OOC: Here comes the calvary...xD Hazeltear padded along the river, following her friend's scent. She needed one more cat to form a hunting patrol, and Wolfriver was her obvious choice. "Wolfriver," she called, as her friend's scent strengthened. Unexpectedly, as she drew near, she smelled another scent. It definitely wasn't ShoreClan - it was much too woody. StormClan, she thought with a jolt, and quickened her pace. "What in StarClan's name are you doing here?" she spat angrily, as she noticed the thrush on the ground in front of Snowveil.

Wolfriver turned back at the faint sound of her name, then forward again to the cat in front of her. "Um...well, obviously you shouldn't be here. You might wanna le-" she broke off as another Shoreclan scent hit her. "Uh oh.." She glanced at the Stormclan warrior, then at her friend, unsure of what to say.

Snowveil took a step back, flattening her ears. "Um, well, I know I shouldn't be here, but..." She darted a nervous glance at Hazeltear. If it comes to a fight, I'm outnumbered. This is SO not good! The StormClan warrior pushed the thrush in front of her, towards Wolfriver. "Um, here..."

Wolfriver blinked, unsure of quite what she should do. On the one hand, the fear in the warrior's eyes and posture made her want to offer reassurance, and see her back over the border without another thought. On the other hand, Hazeltear was angry, and that anger could easily transfer to her if she wasn't careful. And an angry friend was the last thing she needed. Eh, heck with it. Can't make everyone happy, and Midnightstar will get mad at me too if I'm not careful. Still not in the clear for that sledding thing. Wolfriver mentally shook her head. Process of elimination.
"That's great, but I think we still need to know why you're over here," she said, keeping her fur and voice as relaxed as she could. "Were you hunting on Shoreclan territory?"

Snowveil's ears pricked forwards as she stared at Wolfriver. Why does she look so relaxed? She just caught me stealing prey from her territory! She poked her paw at the grass, avoiding the warrior's eyes. "Well, sort of... It was kind of on the border..." She trailed off, blinking ashamedly at her lies. The thrush had been several mouse-lengths over the border, but what else was she supposed to say? There was nothing to gain, and everything to lose, by telling the truth.

Hazeltear didn't even bother to match her Clanmate's calm demeanor. What mattered to her now was that a cat from another Clan had stolen prey - from ShoreClan territory! "Are you sure?" she inquired icily. "If it was really on the border, why are you on our territory?" She lashed her tail menacingly as she waited for an answer. Even if Snowveil denied it, Hazeltear was absolutely convinced that she was guilty. After all, why else would she be so nervous?

Snowveil snarled, the fur along her spine bristling. "Because my jump carried it across the border, mouse-brain. Are you going to attack me because my fresh-kill landed a pawstep inside your territory?" She stared straight into Hazeltear's eyes, impaling the warrior with her angry green gaze. "I'm no thief!" The lie tasted bitter, like carrion.

Not easily intimidated, Hazeltear stared right back, green eyes flashing back defiantly. "Just a second now, you said it was just on the border. "Having second thoughts, now are we?" she snapped, as her tortoiseshell fur began to bristle. Her claws unsheathed automatically; this warrior's impertinence was driving her insane. To argue on another's territory and start lying to boot - who did this cat think she was?

Nightfrost had escaped to the meadows. trying to find some peace from the hecktic camp. He had just settled down in a nice sunny patch of grass when a voice carried by the breaze swept by. It sounded angry. Startled, Nightfrost perked up his ears. Yup, that was an argument alright. He really didn't want to get up, but how would he explain himself if it was something important? "I didn't feel like it was hardly a good argument. Besides, he was just to curious. Sighing, he heaved himself up and walked briskly over to the source of the voice. As he got closer he could hear the raving voice of Hazeltear. Irritation tugged at him, sometimes that cat would react on emotion only, never pausing to think things out. As he neared the border, he scented Wolfriver and another cat that he couldn't recognize immediatly. The third cat had a strage scent, but before he could identify it, he reached the scene. Then he realized that the scent was StormClan. "What's going on here?" he asked, he voice suddenly sharper then he intended.

Snowveil glared at Nightfrost, but her emerald eyes were desperate. These odds are getting worse all the time. Maybe I should just... But she shook that thought off. If she confessed to stealing prey, Hazeltear would rip her to shreds and StormClan would be labeled thieves. "It's just a misunderstanding," she spat at Nightfrost. "I accidentally crossed the border just after I caught a thrush. Hazeltear seems to think I'm a thief." She punctuated this with a glare at Hazeltear, green eyes burning. Though she had kept the tremor out of her voice, fear clutched her heart with iron talons. What have I done?

Nightfrost nodded, still worried about what would happen, but more annoyed. This whole prey-stealing thing was getting a little out of control. It occured to him that Snowviel might not be one hondred percent truthfull, so he glanced at Wolfriver, who didn't seam to be controled by her emotions at the moment. "Is this what happened, Wolfriver?" he asked. Hopefully, Nightfrost would be able to figure out what was going on before Hazeltear exploded and attacked Snowviel.

Wolfriver let the confused expression slip from her face when she realized the older warrior was speaking to her her. Quickly she pushed herself back into the mindset where she could actually think, ignoring the whirl of emotions and new appearances for a moment. "Actually," she meowed slowly, "I'm not quite sure what happened. See, I just heard a noise and came to see what was going on. And then I smelled Stormclan, and just as I was gonna try to figure out what was going on, all of you guys started showing up. So you know as much as I do." She paused for what felt like a long moment, then continued before anyone could interject, "But I have to admit, I think we should be careful not to overreact. I mean, for all we know it could've just been an honest mistake." And Starclan knows I've come close to being caught just over the border dozens of times. I've never meant any harm by it, and I've been going over on purpose.
