Seamist paced uneasily around the camp as she arrived through the entrance, Ripplestream and Midnightstar in tow. Any cat could see by their expressions that this was no hunting party - Ripplestream's face was streaked with tears, Seamist's normally expressionless one was contorted in anguish, and Midnightstar just seemed plain angry. They all had good reason to be so, of course - Ripplestream had been seeing another cat secretly, although the warrior code dictated that she was not allowed to do so. To make matters worse, she had been seeing Seamist's brother, Shadowfire - who was in StormClan.
Seamist raised her head uneasily. Shadowfire was probably in StormClan by now, along with his Clanmate, Cloudmist. He'll be in so much trouble if Scarletstar finds out... she thought, and then shook her head. WHEN, not if.

Ripplestream plunked down on the ground and wiped her face angrily with a paw. She fixed her amber green eyes on Midnightstar and transfered it to Seamist, and then swept her gaze across the cats in the camp. There was no reason for them to think she was in trouble any sooner than they had to. Hopefully, if she was suspended from her duties, Mousepaw would remember what she had taught him...

Seamist nearly bit her lip in frustration as she watched Ripplestream from the corner of her eye. She's being such a kittypet, she thought ind disgust, as she watched Ripplestream rub her reddened eyes. The blue tabby she-cat nearly groaned as Ripplestream sat down on the ground hard. Has she any dignity at all? she muttered silently to herself. Seamist finally stopped pacing and sat down herself, in what she thought was a graceful manner. Her silvery-blue tail twitched back and forth uneasily, awaiting Midnightstar's judgement. Would Ripplestrem still be allowed to be the Medicine Cat?

Midnightstar was the last one to enter the campsite, and as any intelligent cat could tell, she was not a happy cat.
She sat down in front of Seamist and Ripplestream, having to refrain from glaring at the medicine cat childishly. She didn't respond for a moment, and proceeded to close her eyes and take a deep breath to try and calm her frayed nerves. Followed by another, one and then one more for good measure. Finally, her silver eyes opened. Seeing that a group of warriors, apprentices, and just plain nosy cats had begun to form, she quickly barked out, "This is a private affair. Leave us, and will someone please track down Twilightsong?"
Seeing the mass dissemble rapidly at her sharp tone, she turned to the other cats. This was a private affair, and she didn't want to cause more suffering or embarrassment for the medicine cat that what was absolutely necessary. She would not wait until she had her mate by her side, no matter how pressing the matter or that he was technically the leader at the moment. She slanted a borderline scornful look at her medicine cat before her expression became frosty. After a moment, she spoke again. "Ripplestream, Seamist." She wanted to make sure she had both of their attentions before she handed out punishment.
"I will discuss this further over with Twilightsong to see if anything needs to be changed or perhaps removed, but for the meantime: Ripplestream, your apprentice, Mousepaw, will be the new medicine cat officially. Temporarily, however. This is because you are an extremely talented medicine cat, and that I have seen that while Mousepaw has made excellent progress over the last few months, he is still not ready to become a full-time medicine cat." She began immediately briskly, staring into the other she-cats amber-green eyes. "I do not approve of your actions, but I am not one to talk much on that subject."
She paused momentarily to see if the other cat had anything she needed to say.

Seamist's eyes flickered. This was a good punishment - Mousepaw was indeed not completely ready for the responsibility of being the medicine cat alone. Part of her - the small, merciful part that did not wish for Ripplestream to be banished - had worried for a while that Ripplestream's apprentice would not be able to handle things by himself. If an epidemic of greencough went around, or if another Clan attacked ShoreClan, poor Mousepaw would be overwhelmed. This way, Ripplestream could help from the shadows, while stripped of rank. Seamist had no say in the matter, though, and so she held her tongue. Her sea-green eyes flickered over to Ripplestream. What was she thinking? Seamist knew that if Ripplestream had been an ordinary warrior or a less talented medicine cat, Midnightstar would have had no choice but to send her away.

Ripplestream nodded, "Thank you, Midnightstar," she replied respectfully, her relief carefully kept hidden from the other cats, especially Seamist. She had nothing else to say so she glanced at Seamist then back to her leader. The silver blue she-cat thought about her apprentice for a moment, He isn't ready to be a full medicine cat...but I can obviously still help him...Midnightstar wouldn't just let him do everything by himself... she twitched her tail slightly, Stop being a mousebrain! she scolded herself. Then her thoughts turned to her brother, up in StarClan. What would Pebblestone think of her now? When she had broken the warrior code to severely and was so close to a fight with his mate?

(sorry! here now! hope its okay I had blossompaw rat out the news to him, she is Middy's apprentice. xD )
TWI-light-SOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGG! Oh TWIIIIIIIIII-light-SONGGGGGG!"
Twilightsong had been about to pounce on a fat juicy squirrel when Blossompaw's high pitched call for him scared the squirrel to kingdom come. Truthfully, it had made Twilightsong jump almost as badly since Blossompaw's shrill mew for him had been completely unexpected.
"WHAT?! I'm right here Blossompaw!" He snapped at her, uncharacteristically moody as he was miffed at having missed the squirrel and was hiding the fact she'd scared him as well. Being snuck up on and scared by an Apprentice never looked good for a warrior, let alone the Deputy. It was his reputation for pete's sake.
"What do you want? And why aren't you with your Mentor Midnightstar?" He asked, working to not sound quite so irritable, but so far not succeeding. Blossompaw clearly didn't care as she looked a cross between shocked, disgusted and... smug? That couldn't be good.
"Ripplestream has a BOYFRIEND! And he's in STORMCLAN!" Blossompaw said, stopping near Twilightsong, but leaping up and down eagerly as she relayed the news like it was the hottest gossip in town. In actuality, Blossompaw knew full well Ripplestream had been pretty naughty, but she didn't quite know how serious it was since Blossompaw wasn't a Med Cat and naturally didn't pay one drop of attention to the Med Cat rules. If she had, she'd have understood why Twilightsong smacked her.
"That is NOT funny Blossompaw! We do not run around making jokes at the Med cat's expense! And certainly NOT ones that insinuate she has a boyfriend!" Twilightsong said in shock and anger. He knew Blossompaw could be a pawful and looked to tell jokes and pull pranks, but joking that a Med Cat was DATING?! That was just totally over the top.
"MMRROWWWLLLLL!" Blossompaw spat in shock before leaping back and glaring hatefully at him. "I'm NOT kidding! If you don't believe me then you can ask Midnightstar about it at camp since she sent me to find you!" Blossompaw spat at him crossly before running back to camp, clearly angry at being called a liar.
Hearing Midnightstar had sent for him make his hair stand up. Midnightstar! That meant... Blossompaw was serious?! Ripplestream had a boyfriend?!?! Oh great StarClan! "Blossompaw, wait, I'm sorry! Wait up!" Twilightsong called after the Apprentice as he took off after her. He caught up with her and beat her to the camp entrance. Slamming on the brakes, Twilightsong looked in disbelief at the scene.
Midnightstar looked a cross between furious and sad, Ripplestream was crying and Seamist... well, he didn't look much better than Midnightstar. Still in shock, Twilightsong looked down as Blossompaw trotted in with a smirk on her face. "Told you!" She said in a smug tone.
Laying his ears back, Twilightsong whapped her and Blossompaw hissed at him. It was obvious she had retained her kithood dislike of him well into her Apprenticeship days. Annoyed with her, Twilightsong glared her down. "Beat it. You're not needed here!" He told her. With one last glare, a brave move in front of Midnightstar, she sulked off to the Apprentice's den, no doubt to gossip with Windpaw.
Turning his attention to the upset trio, he stared down at the crying Ripplestream. "Blossompaw told me you had a, a, a... boyfriend? In... StormClan?" He asked, his voice shocked and clearly hoping someone would tell him Blossompaw was being dramatic again.

OOC: Cats have boyfriends? XD "That's right," Seamist mewed evenly, containing her anger and frustration. She knew she would have to go hunting and blow off steam, but she doubted she would be able to catch anything while shrieking, "Shadowfire, you mousebrained furball!" and "That crow-food eater Ripplestream!" Turning her now blistering green gaze to Twilightsong, she continued, "Our pure, innocent medicine cat saw fit to run off with my brother, a StormClan warrior. She's been meeting with him for moons now." Her voice finally betrayed her emotions, coating her mew - which was still sharp at the best of times - in a layer of frost. Poisonous frost, if there was such a thing. Her tail-tip flickered back and forth ominously as she held the deputy's gaze. Since their first meeting, she had since accepted his authority, and wished him no ill will, but if he let Ripplestream get away just because she was bawling her eyes out like a frightened kit, she would have some choice words for him later. Her sea-green eyes stared into the deputy's, daring him to challenge her words.

(I believe the correct term is 'mate', yes? XD)
The wind had shifted slightly, and Midnightstar was immediately aware of when her mate had entered the meeting as his scent became distinct, along with her apprentice's. In her effort to control her dangerous temper, she didn't greet him like she normally would as she kept her eyes focused on the crying medicine cat sternly. While she felt sorrow for the fellow she-cat, she would not less the punishment unless Twilightsong demanded she do so, as he was essentially the leader at this point, though she wouldn't be happy and would more than likely force him to sleep outside of the den while she hogged her bed of moss.
"Blossompaw told me you had a, a, a... boyfriend? In... StormClan?"
His words broke in, sounding more stunned than actually angry. Midnightstar knew that this was his first big problem as the temporary leader and she knew how overwhelming it could be on occasions and felt a brief stab of pity, followed quickly by an overwhelming desire to cackle. And he complained that she claimed that her job was harder than it actually was.. Pushing aside her slightly maniacal thoughts for the moment, the longhaired ebony she-cat opened her mouth to answer, when Seamist beat her to the punch quickly, her voice acidic ice. There was another stab of pity, though this one was aimed at the medicine cat. There was obviously going to be some tension between the two long after this was over.
"Our pure, innocent medicine cat saw fit to run off with my brother, a StormClan warrior. She's been meeting with him for moons now."
Midnightstar lifted a black eyebrow at the light sarcasm that coated Seamist's words, hidden thinly under the poisonous tone. She had known that the tabby had been known to fly into rampages, and her daughter mirrored that, but she had been surprised by how much. "Seamist, please simmer down." She mewed softly, her voice quiet but hard. The onyx female turned her silver eyes upon the larger tom, the silvery depths dancing with vivid fury. "However, what Seamist says is true. I have given Ripplestream her punishment, of that she will temporarily be removed as medicine cat, and her apprentice Mousepaw will be the medicine cat. I hope you see the punishment as fit?"
Her tone of voice was distanced and cool, truly the voice of a leader, and only those who had spent enough time with her would be able to tell that she was in silent grief. The wrath in her eyes died away slowly to sadness though the silvery depths hardened and froze as she turned back to face the two she-cats.
(Angsty kitty...O.o)

Ripplestream's eyes dried and they blazed with anger as Blossompaw yelled out to the entire Clan. Thanks a lot, mousebrain, she glared at the young apprentice and was glad when Twilightsong shooed her away. She looked at the deputy through slitted amber green eyes, studying his face that was covered with shock and amazement. The silver blue she-cat hissed quietly, barely suppressing her anger as Seamist spoke. Never. I'll NEVER forgive her. She unsheathed and sheathed her claws over and over. Not wanting to anger her leader anymore, the guilty medicine cat only twitched her tail tip as a sign of her fury. If any cat made eye contact with her this moment, they would have burned into a little pile of ash.

(boyfriend, mate, meh. i was purporting to unleash my profound thesauras-ness upon this string of chatter. alas it appears i was thusly thwarted. xD *giggles and dives under a couch before anyone can whap her*)
To say tensions were running high was appearing to be a slight understatement as Seamist's dagger gaze lifted from Ripplestream and landed on him instead. He almost put up a paw to remind Seamist that he was a completely innocent party here, but held his peace as he knew Seamist wasn't actually mad at him. He was also thanking StarClan that indeed Seamist wasn't mad at him and he hoped he never gave that cat a reason to be mad at him as Seamist looked like she could glare a rock into submission.
"That's right. Our pure, innocent medicine cat saw fit to run off with my brother, a StormClan warrior. She's been meeting with him for moons now."
Twilightsong felt distressed inwardly at hearing that Blossompaw, for all her smugness, was correct in what she'd told him. He hadn't been entirely comfortable being leader of ShoreClan with Midnightstar, er Midnightsong, er... whatever he was supposed to call her, watching his every move from the start. He'd been fine with the typical fresh kill restock issues, minor injuries, or even the rare report of a stale fox scent near the borders. But this? This was a nightmare.
He knew Midnight wasn't assessing him in a "I hope you fail" way, but he almost felt like he was back in his old Apprenticeship days where his every move was watched and graded. Except this time the grade was on how well he was a Leader. Based on the looks he was getting from Seamist and Midnight, he felt like he had to come up with the right decision or else. He was scared what the "or else" was. Thankfully, Midnight gave him somewhat of an easy out...
"Seamist, please simmer down. However, what Seamist says is true. I have given Ripplestream her punishment, of that she will temporarily be removed as medicine cat, and her apprentice Mousepaw will be the medicine cat. I hope you see the punishment as fit?"
Twilightsong listened to Midnight's suggestion and sighed. It was only somewhat of an easy out because it was no joke to say Ripplestream was a very talented Medicine Cat. For the life of him he couldn't understand why she'd turned her back on the code and gotten involved with a male, and one from a completely different clan! He could only imagine the uproar going on it Scarletstar's camp and dreaded to think what Scarletstar would have to say at the next Gathering.
This also led to another problem. Ripplestream had made herself, and consequently her entire clan, look foolish and stupid. That was at best. At worst, they would gain a reputation for deliberately breaking the very code that held them all together as the four clans. Not good. Twilightstar wanted to be optimist though and say there wouldn't be a need for too much damage control.
Really the only two clans that knew were ShoreClan and StormClan and he highly doubted Scarletstar would want her warriors spreading news of her warrior's stupidity around. As long as the ShoreClan warriors kept their mouths shut, no one else need know why Ripplestream wasn't the Medicine Cat. Oh sure, they'd need to come up with some reason, but well, he'd worry about that later.
Feeling everyone's eyes on him, he realized he'd been quiet for a good minute. Clearing his throat, he pulled himself out of his thoughts and looked down at the sniffling Ripplestream with a sigh. He wanted to pull her aside and talk to her to at least get her side of the story. Even though she'd been completely wrong in doing it, he still wanted to know why.
Twilightstar briefly wondered why Midnight hadn't made her decision final anyways and then he wanted to whap himself. Cause she wasn't the Leader anymore technically. DUH. She'd been forced to wait for him because it was up to him to make it final. Terrific. It was in his paws as to the fate of ShoreClan's Medicine Cat status. Wow, and how many times did Nightfrost and I pull jokes on the Medicine Cat? And now here I am about to take her job from her. Can this day get any worse? Twilightstar sighed again before looking at the three females in front of him.
"Alright look, um, Seamist, why don't you go hunting or perhaps back to the warriors den for awhile? Take some time and cool off alright? I want to talk to Ripplestream before I make my final decision on how to handle this. And Midnight, would you mind getting someone to find Mousepaw and bring her to my cave? Seeing as he's her Apprentice, he needs to be there." He said slightly exasperated as he was still trying to grasp the fact that yes, Ripplestream HAD a mate. In a different Clan.
Glancing back at Midnightsong, he hesitated before finally speaking to her again. "If you don't mind, I'd rather talk to her alone, but if you'd please wait outside with Mousepaw until I'm done? Also, I don't want this spreading any further. Maybe you could see to that as I don't know who else overheard besides Blossompaw? It appears I'll have to call a clan meeting later anyways since this will affect the whole clan, but in the meantime um, let's just keep business as usual around camp." He said, watching as a hunting patrol entered the clearing to drop off their catch before heading back out.
Looking over at Ripplestream, Twilightstar wasn't sure what to feel for her. He felt sorry for her in a way, but at the same time, he didn't. He didn't feel angry at her, but in a way he did. It was a very odd mix of feelings inside him and he wasn't sure how to handle it right now. For the time being, he simply shoved his feelings aside and pointed his tail at the cave him and Midnight shared, silently ordering Ripplestream to follow him as he walked over to the cave and took a seat on the bed of moss. Wrapping his tail around his paws, he waited to see if Ripplestream would say anything of if he'd have to ask her to explain.

ooc - I see you're turning back to writing novels...O.O
Ripplestream turned balls of cold fire onto Twilightsong's face, daring him to say something stupid about her. But she followed all the same. This wasn't the mischievous kit she had dealt with in the past when he had messed up her herbs. Now it felt like she was the naughty kit being given a punishment for dirtying the fresh-kill pile with mud. As she entered the dimly lit cave that Midnightstar and Twilightsong shared, she sat down and lifted her chin slightly, not giving away any of what she felt.
This was weird. Twilightsong was younger than she was and yet she was the one getting the talking to. Whatever. Technically, Midnightstar had given her the punishment, not him. He probably just wants to yell at me and freak out over why I was meeting Shadowfire, she thought sarcastically. Nothing out of the ordinary. Meeting Twilightsong's gaze levelly, she twitched her ears as if she say, "Well, if you're going to lecture me, you might as well get on with it now...geez."

Seamist's ears flicked just the barest bit as she forced herself to calm down, and her face rearranged itself into its customary look, calm and cool. Twilightsong was obviously doing his best, and wasn't trying to belittle him, but his inexperience irked her somewhat. Gradually, her green eyes lost their fire, and she was able to lower her eyes to the ground in a gesture of submission. "You're right - I should take some time to cool off," she agreed calmly and quietly. After all, Twilightsong's the deputy, she thought. And deputies know best. That last thought came with a tinge of sarcasm, but she really did respect the deputy. She dipped her head to Midnightstar and Twilightsong in turn, acknowledging Ripplestream with a flick of the ear, and padded away obediently. Or so it appeared. She was actually plotting the best way to take revenge on Ripplestream, and she always thought more clearly while hunting. Just you wait, she thought bitterly, as she exited the camp with a sweep of her silver-tinged tail.

(ok, I dunno why Tilly hasn't posted yet, but I want to get this moving again so I'm going to go ahead and reply.)
Twilightstar nodded faintly as Seamist took her leave. It was starting to look like he didn't have a vote of confidence from her regarding his handling of Ripplestream's punishment, or was that Seamist didn't think he'd be harsh enough for her tastes? Shaking the thought away he temporarily ignored the icy look Ripplestream was feeding him as she entered the den with him.
Does everyone think I'm not cut out to handle this or do they think that I'm some sort of puppet leader since Midnightsong was there before me? Rapidly getting unhappy with the idea he wasn't being taken seriously, Twilightstar twitched his tail. He respected and loved Midnightsong wholeheartedly and would always back her up, but frankly for the next few months, HE was in charge - not her.
Twilightstar hated to have to make an issue out of it, but he was starting to wonder now if some of the hostility he'd seen was based on the fact Seamist and Ripplestream didn't see him as the leader and instead saw him more of someone to tolerate while Midnightsong called the shots instead. Knowing there was a time and a place to make examples of situations, Twilightstar pushed those thoughts aside. This was an unusual case, but a serious one nonetheless. Whatever the outcome was when they left this den, the whole clan would have to deal with it long after he and Midnightsong switched ranks back.
Seeing the look on Ripplestream's face and the way she stared at him made his fur bristle slightly. Laying his ears back slightly, he met her look head on. "You can drop the attitude Ripplestream. While I'm upset that this has happened, I'm not the enemy. I'm your leader." He said, keeping his voice even. "I'd like to hear your side of the story so I'd like you to start from the beginning and tell me how this all started." He finished. Getting comfortable, he waited for her side of the story.
