Frostflash's heart was pounding as she looked at the crow. Here it is, my big chance to impress Blueshade! She crept silently towards the bird, hoping that she didn't look as tense as she felt. Her paws whispered over the grass as she stalked forwards. She was barely two fox-lengths away now. the deputy crouched, ready to leap...
The crow was taking a well-deserved nap. Sure, he was napping on a stump instead of in an actual tree, but he wasn't a particularly smart crow. Furred-pelts no find me here, he had thought sluggishly, before drifting off to sleep. Soft voices, speaking in some strange language that he didn't recognize, woke the crow up. "Go 'way," the bird croaked. "My place. Get lost, or me eat ya eyes out." Only then did he realize what he was seeing: a lithe grey shape, baring wicked fangs and getting ready to attack. A furred-pelt! "No!" The crow croaked. "Go 'way! Go 'way!" Then the furred-pelt leaped. There was a flash of grey fur and violet eyes, then the crow felt a sharp pain in the back of his neck.
Frostflash turned back to Blueshade, the crow hanging limply in her jaws. Her violet eyes sparkled with triumph and happiness. Yes!

Blushade was shocked at the size of the crow. "Wow you caught it," He said," And it's soo big!" He noticed her eyes gleaming triumphantly. "Check and see if there are any maggots, you never know what's on a crow." He recited what his mentor had taught him when he was Bluepaw

Frostflash snorted. "The maggots are probably in its brain, seeing how easily it let me catch it!" For a brief second, she was annoyed at how Blueshade had told her what to do, but she let it pass. It was a good idea, anyway. The deputy carefully nosed through the crow's untidy feathers, wrinkling her nose at the smell of carrion. "No maggots," she announced finally. "Thank StarClan!"

Blueshade nodded. He heard rustling from a bush behind him. He silently padded toward it. He suddenly realized how close they were to ForestClan. It was too late by the time he accidently was on the otherside of the border. A shape flew at him.
"What is an EmberClan cat like yourself doing on the otherside of the border?" Snowface a ForestClan she-cat asked in a snarl.
Blueshade looked at Snowface hostily. "It was an accident, right Frostflash?" He looked at frostflash for support.

Frostflash dropped the crow so that she could let out a hiss of outrage. "We're nowhere near the border! It's over there!" She flicked her tail at a line of bushes, barely able to contain her outrage. Who did this stupid she-cat think she was, barging in and ruining a perfect hunt? The deputy's grey fur bristled along her spine. "Get lost, crowfood. We never crossed the border, and I'll swear that by StarClan." She kept her voice calm, but her violet eyes were shining with anger. If you don't back off, I'll hit you with this crow!

Blueshade agreed, "can't you smell, i sure can, and the border is over there." He nodded his thanks to Frostflash.
She snorted,"Obviously you can't smell."But obviously she knew she'd been defeated and quickly raced across the border.
"You sure showed her!" He said praisingly.

Frostflash blinked in surprise at how easily Snowface had given up. Um, okay... She was tempted to call something insulting after the she-cat, but decided that it would be stupid. She's learned her lesson, I think. "Thanks," she meowed, grinning at Blueshade.

"No problem," He nodded over at were the ForestClan she-cat had disapeared,"She's only 8 moons old, so she was probably scared." He said. He sniffed the air, but Snowface must have scared the prey, because there was no scent of prey...again!

Dewpaw stormed around Preyrocks, searching for her mentor, and knew... it was getting hopeless. I thought he promised he would train with me today! she wailed inwardly. Suddenly, whomp! Dewpaw crashed into Frostflash and Blueshade. "H....h...hello." her eyes were wide. "Have you seen my mentor? I was sure he wanted to train with me today." her gaze drooped. "He probably thinks I'm worthless." Staring at her healing paw, Dewpaw groaned and blinked sadly at her Clan deputy and her clanmate. Somehow her heart felt weighed down by a stone whenever Frostflash spoke to Blueshade. Why? Why? Dewpaw wondered, half angry. It isn't my choice to know who Blueshade likes. She told herself, trying to calm down. Looking at Frostflash and Blueshade again, she waited for them to answer her.

Blueshade swivled his head toward Dewpaw, "He came by here a while ago," He began, his voice lowered to sympathy,"but I don't think your worthless to him."

Frostflash was about to think of something- hopefully something funny- to say to Blueshade, when suddenly Dewpaw leaped out of the ferns and crashed into her. The deputy blinked at Cinnamonstreak's apprentice, wondering why she looked angry. "Um, I haven't seen him either. Rosedawn was looking for you earlier..." She trailed off, twitching her tail uncomfortably. "Don't worry, you're not useless." Frostflash blinked at her encouragingly.

Dewpaw blinked. "Rosedawn?!?!" The one who had a huge grudge against her mentor? Groaning, Dewpaw looked around quickly. "Where did she go?" Dewpaw mewed, exasperated, and sounding like a warrior, not the Apprentice. "Oh, and have you seen any other of my denmates... like Stormpaw and... er.... Frostpaw?" Briefly thinking of Darkpaw, the she cat who was so pretty and cool, Dewpaw strived so hard to be like her. [O.o] Dewpaw gave Frostflash a fake smile and turned away from her deputy, frowning.

Blueshade replied,"No I havn't seen any of your den mates, they must be training..." He trailed off. He turned at the sound of a vole. He put all his weight in his haunches. Paw by paw he stalked it. And when he was in striking distance, he leap, kicking up leaves as he did. The vole was fast, but he was faster, and he caught it quickly. "Do you think it'd be ok if we ate this vole? He asked Frostflash and Dewpaw.

Frostflash winced at Dewpaw's evident exasperation. "Um... I think she said she'd try by the Great Oak," she meowed. And if you've got any sense you'll go in the opposite direction, she added silently. "I haven't seen any of the other apprentices, either. I think Stormpaw's off hunting, but with her you can never be too sure." The deputy purred with amusement. Her eyes widened slightly in admiration of Blueshade's skill as he caught the vole. 'Good catch!" she called happily, but her voice soon turned stern again. "No, you can't eat it now. We're on a hunting patrol, remember?" She flicked his shoulder lightly with her tail-tip. "We can share this crow later, if you want." she hoped she hadn't put too much emphasis on share, but she'd do almost anything for a chance to talk to the handsome warrior again.

Dewpaw nodded curtly. I bet shes lying, the young apprentice thought, glaring briefly at Frostflash. "I guess I'll go look for him, thanks." she mewed coldly.
