Shadowpaw stalked silently through the ferns, his head low and amber eyes dull. He was supposed to be fetching herbs and fresh-kill for Crystalpool, but had found himself wandering here instead. The dark tabby raised his head, looking up into the night sky past the arching fronds. It was a clear night, with no moon, and the stars glittered coldly overhead. He stared at them, willing some message to be written there. Is this really the path you want me to follow, StarClan? Dealing with grumpy elders and sarcastic warriors for the rest of my days? What's the point? The stars glittered blankly, uncaring.

[glow=red,2,300] Crystalpool had let Shadowpaaw out, but she had decided to follow him. Moonflight dappled her silvery fur, making it pitch black. Somehow she felt Shadowpaw's feelings... uncertainy, it felt like. Is he okay? Crystalpool wondered. She didn't want to pop out and treat him like a kit, so she stared at him from behind a bush. Shadowpaw continued to slink along. He passed a huge clump of yarrow without even stopping to sniff it. I'll never get the scent of herbs out of my fur. He stopped suddenly, as if he had hit a wall. Fur prickled along his spine. The medicine cat apprentice whirled around, looking behind him. "Who's there?" Two eyes gleamed from underneath a bush.ooc- I guess Shadowpaw is having an early-life crisis

Crystalpool walked out, not intimidated. Her eyes were filled with worry. "Arer you okay?" she whispered, trying to keep quiet. Flattening her ears, the medicine cat gently brushed Shadowpaw's flank with her tail. The last thing she wanted was fr Shadowpaw to lose his special connection to StarClan, his sense of healing, and his respected spot of a medicine cat.

Shadowpaw jumped. His mentor was the last cat he had expected to see here. The dark apprentice winced at her question, and initially wasn't going to tell the truth. But he knew that he wouldn't be able to fool Crystalpool, and that lying to her would just lose her respect for him. "No," he whispered. "I'm not okay." Admitting that he wasn't all right had given him strength, and suddenly a torrent of words came rushing out of the young tabby. "Medicine cats are always supposed to be kind and nice and supportive, and help cats understand their feelings." Shadowpaw's tone was bitter, and a fire kindled in the depths of his eyes. "But what about our feelings?! I can't be angry or annoyed or sad or scared. i have to hide my emotions constantly." He looked up to meet his mentor's eyes squarely. "I just keep bottling my feelings up, and now it feels like I'm going to explode."
