Seamist padded silently along the Dunes, searching for any familiar landmarks. So many seasons had passed that she was no longer sure of where she was on the territory that she had once been deputy of. Great StarClan, what have I done? she thought miserably, and sat down hard. Suddenly, she heard pawsteps slowly but surely heading her way. "Who could that be?" she murmured to herself, and turned around cautiously.

Mousepaw had smelt another cat on the dunes, with a smattered ShoreClan scent but also some other unfamiliar scents. He abandoned his search for herbs -not that he had been looking properly anyway and padded off towards the cat, the blind apprentice decided that it would be best in his position to be nice and not hostile. "Er... Hi" he meowed to the stranger, "Are you part of ShoreClan, because I haven't seen you before..."

Seamist blinked. Evidently, this young cat had been born after she had left. "I'm Seamist, the former deputy," she informed him. Seeing that he was somewhat nervous, she blinked warmly at him and mewed, "What's your name? I haven't seen you before, either. "

"Mousepaw", the apprentice meowed, "I'm Ripplestream's apprentice" he turned his blind eyes to the ground, "aren't you a bit annoyed at not being deputy anymore?" he asked

Seamist looked at Mousepaw thoughtfully. Rippelstream's, eh? she thought. Jolting herself back to reality, she mewed, "Not really. But it can't be helped, now can it? I mean, I can hardly kick Twilightsong out and declare myself the new deputy." Her whiskers twitched at the thought. "No, I'm happy just the way I am," she mewed. As an afterthought, she added, "If you're Ripplestream's apprentice, what are you doing way out here? There are barely any herbs growing here, and you should know, seeing as your sense of smell should be keener than most."

"I decided to do something different, searching for herbs got boring, and i filled the stocks yesterday..." Mousepaw stuttered, if Rippledstream caught him, he might be in trouble, but he was intruiged by this cat, and decided to stay and talk, his thoughts were still on Dawntear, she'd saved helped him instead of herself and that stuck, but that was when they were both still apprentices, and he was a medicine cat now...

Ripplestream was looking for oak leaves by the Dunes, those were good for scratches, and with her thoughts set on collecting herbs, she hadn't scented her apprentice and her brother's mate until now. With her mouth crammed with oak leaves, the silver blue she-cat headed towards the two cats. Shouldn't Mousepaw be preparing poultices back at camp? she thought. Well, I didn't really tell him that directly, but he should know.
She padded up to her two Clan mates and nodded a greeting to Seamist, "Hello," she dropped the oak leaves. "Mousepaw, shouldn't you be back at camp preparing poultices?" she questioned her young apprentice. The medicine cat wondered what he would say about that since she hadn't really told him that.[/color]

Seamist glanced at Ripplestream. She hadn't changed much from before - she was still somewhat stern, and had the regal air of StarClan's knowledge about her. "Ripplestream," she mewed, and blinked a greeting. She glanced at the young cat. "That's a fine apprentice you've got there," she mewed warmly.

"Er... I did most before I left" Mousepaw stammered, he shouldn't have wandered off, "But I did stock up on most of the herbs yesterday..." Why? he thought, and upon hearing Seamist's comment, glowed inside, it was nice to be complimented by a deputy, even if they weren't one any longer, but he was still intruiged by Seamist's leaving

Seamist regarded the apprentice with pitying eyes. She knew that most young cats hated to be cooped up in a stuffy den for too long; even a medicine cat apprentice needed some excitement once in a while. "I'm sure he's done quite a bit of work," she mewed firmly. "He just wants to get a bit of fresh air; why not let him?"

((eh, can you say AWKward? *laughs evilly and shoves Twi into thread*))
Twilightsong had been looking for Ripplestream since he'd stepped on a rather friendly briar earlier and cut his paw. He'd licked it clean, but it was bothering him and he knew she'd chew him out later if he didn't at least show it to her. He found it slightly silly for just a cut, but Ripplestream wasn't really nice when one said such things to her. He grinned at thinking he should make a crack about that next time he saw her and say she only got upset cause she was afraid she'd be out of a job. He liked the Medicine Cat, but couldn't resist poking fun at her "picking grass" and "skipping through dandelions" all day for a job.
He'd heard she and Mousepaw had gone herb hunting so he'd trekked out of camp to go find her. Good luck. He had to smile at the irony of him looking for her to tell him about his injured paw. He was willing to bet StarClan the first thing she'd yell at him would be about how he should have stayed off it. Typical Medicine Cat line. Chuckling a little, he finally picked her Mousepaw's scent and tracked him quickly, hoping he knew where Ripplestream was or at least could look at his paw.
As he neared where Mousepaw was he heard him talking to a female. As he got closer, he heard Ripplestream's voice and wondered what they were doing way out here in the middle of a sea of sand. He was no expert, but uh, didn't herbs grow in the woods?
He rounded a dune and saw another cat there and stopped. Oh boy. Talk about awkward. It was Seamist, the former Deputy. Gulp. For a moment he stood there wondering if it was too late to backtrack behind the dune and pretend he'd not been there, but it was too late, as Seamist and the others had already seen him. He was somewhat hard to miss with his size and coloring against the gold sand.
"Heh, Hi..." He said lamely as he approached. He wasn't sure if Seamist knew he was the new Deputy and wondered what on earth to do now. Feeling his paw stinging a little he looked over at Ripplestream who had a large pile of oak leaves with her. "Um, got a minute?" He asked as he held out his paw to her with a sheepish look. Glancing over at Seamist, he smiled a little nervously. "Hi, Seamist... um, long time no see. How are you?" He asked, hoping he sounded normal.

Seamist's ears pricked up as she heard yet another cat approach. Judging by his confident demeanor, and his awkward approach, he was the new deputy of ShoreClan. She realized that she was meeting face to face with her successor; for a heartbeat, she forgot to breathe as the enormity of the word 'successor' washed over her. She had no idea how to react, but part of her was slightly miffed that Midnightstar had chosen to replace her. Sure, she had been gone for a while...but still.
Finally, Seamist regarded Twilightsong with distant, frosty green eyes. "Hello, Twilightsong," she mewed at last, in a tone so frigid that any cat would have been surprised to see that frost was not issuing from her mouth. "I'm quite well, thanks. How's the prey running?" She flinched inwardly as she spoke to the tom. She really had no right to dislike him for being the new deputy, but it was just so hard to resist.
Her eyes drifted over to his 'injured' paw. Pfft. What a kittypet, she thought cynically. In my day, you were expected to go to the medicine cat for a broken paw. Not a little boo-boo. Ripplestream doesn't have time to be your mother and kiss it better. She glanced down at her own paw, which was hanging limply by her side. Now that's what I'm talking about.
Seamist suddenly realized that Windpaw was still there. "Run along now," she mewed quietly, with a final-sounding note in her voice. The apprentice didn't deserve to be drowned in the heavy tension that hung over her and Twilightsong; especially since he had only ventured out here to escape boredom.
OOC: Muahaha. Don't worry, Seamist is almost always like this; don't mind her. ;D

Ripplestream twitched her ears nervously. Here were two deputies...one old and one new...there was sure to be awkward moments like this, but she hadn't expected Seamist to be so cold towards Twilightsong.
"Hi, Twilightsong," she meowed, trying to sound calm, but she was sure any cat within two miles of them could feel the tension in the air. "Alright," the medicine cat looked for a little cobweb to put on the cut. She wrapped the cobweb around the paw and tutted. "Such a small cut, do you really need to have my help?" she flicked her tail, but her eyes were slightly amused.

Seamist fought hard to keep her whiskers twitching in satisfaction. So there! she thought smugly. She sat down with her tail wrapped neatly around her paws, one of which was still partly numb. She held it out for inspection. "When can I go on patrols again?" she mewed, her voice still slightly bitter from her previous words.

Ripplestream though for a moment and took Seamist's paw to inspect it. She slowly meowed, "I think in about four or five days," she winced, "Sorry, but I want it to heal before you start going on patrols and such because if you injure it again, there's a pretty good chance you'll lose the use of that paw," she warned her Clan-mate.
