Ripplestream was lying down on a shallow dip in the sandy ground. She was thinking about Mousepaw. Did he REALLY want to be her apprentice? Or was he just accepting the position because he thought other cats would think he would be useless as a warrior? Look at Silversun! He was blind and he was a warrior! The medicine cat sighed.

Nearly silent footsteps carried the tom across the Dunes in the direction of the medicine cat. He meant to ask her about possibly getting something for a slight nick on his stomach. He had been with his apprentice Rubypaw, showing her how to rely on her other senses, not just on her eyes, when she had managed to surprise him and nick his stomach. It wasn't serious, but he had been rolling around so much in the grass and dirt training that he had begun to worry. Rubypaw was a voracious little apprentice. The blind warrior hadn't known that having an apprentice could be so troublesome.
His nose led him right to where the medicine cat was laying. "Ripplestream?" he mewed gently in greeting. The usually cheerful medicine cat seemed gloomy and contemplative. Even he, who had no sight, could sense it. Something must be wrong. "Is something the matter?" Silversun asked, completely forgetting about his stomach scratch. The medicine cat before him had a tendency to make him do that though.

Ripplestream looked up, her amber-green eyes were a little guarded. "Hello, Silversun," she murmured quietly, "And...well, I was just wondering if Mousepaw really does want to be my apprentice. Or if he's just taking the position because he thinks other cats will tease him about never being a warrior because he's...uh, blind." She rested her tail lightly on the warrior's shoulder. "I'm okay, don't worry." She scented a bit of blood on him, "Are you alright? You have a wound somewhere."

Silversun uncharacteristically frowned when she brought up Mousepaw. "Ah yes. I remember him. I went to visit him to see how he was adjusting to his loss of sight, and he was pouting over the fact that he would never become a warrior. I reminded him of the fact I had been born blind and I could not even imagine what the world looks like, and that I had to memorize everything by touch alone and that he would eventually learn to do the same. He didn't appear to hear me, and said that his Warrior dream was over and that he had no choice but to become your apprentice." He recalled quietly, remember his brief conversation with the apprentice.
"But have no fear, Ripplestream. I believe that over time he will get used to having no sight and accept it and becoming more willing to become your apprentice and learn." He soothed the distraught cat in his own shy, awkward way of doing so. When Ripplestream turned the tables on him, he had to smile, however shyly. He had not spent a lot of time with the medicine cat, or she-cats in general. Pretty much the only ones he had spent a larger amount of time together with was Hazeltear and his sister and they were both gone. "And yes, I did have the intention of finding you as I have a slight nick on my stomach. I was training Rubypaw, my new apprentice, and she managed to surprise and scratch me on my stomach." He admitted sheepishly, shuffling his legs as he spoke.

Ripplestream smiled warmly at Silversun. "I suppose Mousepaw will accept his decision soon enough," she murmured. The beautiful silver-blue she-cat stood up, "Wait here for a moment - I'll find some cobwebs and marigold around here somewhere," her clear amber-green eyes gazed around the barren dunes and bounded towards some trees.

He smiled wistfully and made a dramatic show of becoming a statue. "Yes ma'am." He heard her pad softly off, giving him some time to think. He had no idea what the friendly medicine cat even looked like and his heart was pounding so loud he was surprised that Ripplestream couldn't hear it. The only other time he had felt like this (happy, out of breath, shy) was when he had first met Hazeltear and they had spent the entire day messing around back in the meadows. It was freaking him out, though his facial expression revealed nothing. He sighed, shaking off his troublesome thoughts. It was probably nothing, and it would eventually evaporate on its own. And if it didn't, he would make it disappear....somehow....

Ripplestream came back a little bit later with a paw swathed in cobwebs and her mouth crammed with marigold. "Silversun?" she meowed softly, "Could you roll over on your back for a moment? I need to apply to cobwebs and marigold." Still standing on three legs, she started chewing up the marigold into a poultice.

Silversun smiled when Ripplestream's scent filled his nose and he heard her gentle footsteps. At her questions, he simply nodded and rolled over onto his back, waiting for the slight sting he knew that would come when the marigold and cobwebs were to be applied. This hadn't been the first time he'd been injured, naturally. Though it was his first time to be injure by an apprentice. But its only your first apprentiuce, you idiot. His conscious chided him loudly, causing him to roll his useless eyes at the immature thoughts. Once she was finished, he rolled back over and stood, shaking out his magnificient cream and silver colored fur to rid it off the itchy dirt.

Ripplestream applied the poultice with soft paws and let Silversun get back up. "Are you okay now?" she asked. Althought there was a note of concern in her voice, she knew that Silversun would recover quite quickly. It was only a little nick in the stomach area.

"I am quite alright. Thank you very much, Ripplestream." Silversun turned in the general vicinity of her voice and smiled gently. And it was true. The slight pang that the scratch had been making had completely disintegrated, leaving him feeling pain-free. Sighing, he felt no urge to return back to the densite. He wanted to run as hard as he could, as far as he could, and never stop. But that was hardly polite and so he ignored the desire.

Ripplestream finished applying the poultice and cobwebs and let Silversun stand back up. "Think nothing of it," she replied when he thanked her. After all, it was her duty and she liked helping other cats. It wasn't like someone forced her to become a medicine cat, but then again, Silversun was one polite cat! She turned her amber-green eyes on him and looked into his sightless eyes, "Do you want to hunt for a little while with me?" she asked.

"You read my mind." He grinned suddenly, playfully, whisking his tail briefly in impatience. He was already feeling a lot better, despite the fact that the scratch had been minor and had caused him almost no pain. "Lead the way." Silversun tilted his head slightly in the direction of the nearby meadows, silently asking if they were to hunt there or elsewhere. he seriously doubted any plentiful prey could be found in the Dunes. He shuffled awkwardly once more, as if sensing the fact that Ripplestream was watching him. His ears flicked slightly, catching the slight sound of the wind rustling through the trees. His keen nose told him that there were some vole and a rabbit in the forest. If they hurried, they could probably catch them, and add to the diminishing Freshkill pile.

Ripplestream started lead the way to the Meadows. There wasn't much cover for prey to hide in the Dunes and it was getting warmer already. Her thick silver-blue tail swished back and forth. Glancing back at Silversun, who was walking behind her she meowed quietly, "Do you scent any prey around here?" she looked around the Dunes, doubtful that there was any prey, but then decided at Silversun's nose was more sensitive than her own.
