Pebblestone padded silently towards Seamist, his fur sparkled with starlight and his green eyes were shadowed with sadness. He was in StarClan now. The gray tom knew how much his former mate's brother, Shadowfire, meant to her and he cared for Ripplestream, his sister and the CLan's medicine cat as well, but Shadowfire and Ripplestream were in love. Seamist had already tried to stop the two from meeting, but to no avail.
He had seen the ShoreClan border, with Shadowfire and Ripplestream meeting, and the argument between Seamist and Ripplestream, who had been such good friends before, and how Ripplestream had been sleeping in a tree after Seamist left.
The former ShoreClan warrior prodded Seamist's shoulder gently with a paw and whispered, "Wake up, Seamist."

Seamist woke up with a jolt. She had been yearning to hear her mate's voice just one more time before she had gone to sleep, and now, here he was. And yet, she was saddened to see him, as his starry appearance meant that he was well and truly gone. "Pebbelestone," she murmured. "Why are you here?" It slightly embarrassed her for him to see her like this; after she had stormed into camp, she had gone to the warrior's den and slept without grooming herself or eating anything. Her argument with Ripplestream had troubled her that much.

Pebblestone nudged her gently. "I know about Shadowfire and Ripplestream," he meowed quietly, "I saw everything." He wondered his mate wanted to talk about it or should be just give her room? He sighed inwardly, it was all so confusing to deal with...
"I know you love Shadowfire and you don't want him to get hurt, but I don't believe that Ripplestream will hurt him," he defended his sister, but he understood Seamist's point of view. "I should think that a cat like you would know that," his eyes sparked faintly with amusement.

Seamist's heart twisted with guilt. "Eventually, they will be found out," she mewed with conviction. "And Pebblestone, you know that they could start a war between our Clan and his!" Her claws dug into the ground. She felt like sobbing into his shoulder, but now that he was a StarClan cat, she doubted if he was solid enough for her to do that. "I don't know what to do anymore," she whispered, her voice breaking. "Don't leave me again. I need you, and so do Pinestorm and Hazeltear...think of the kits!" She glared at him full in the face with her sea-green eyes, each of them begging for him to stay. They betrayed the desperation she was feeling, and all the anger, all the hurt. The depression. "Stay," she breathed. "I can't go on without you."

Pebblestone's eyes softened with sympathy. "I know they could start a war, but I can feel that no other cats will know except you," he gave his mate's ear a gentle lick. Pressing against Seamist, the light gray tom purred, sorrow and happiness mixed together, "I can't stay with you in the Clan." He thought of his kits and his eyes narrowed affectionately, "Tell them you spoke to me, but not about Ripplestream and Shadowfire - please. I promise nothing too seriously bad will come out from their love for each other. You have to believe me."
Then the former ShoreClan warrior glimpsed Glacierfrost in his mind's eye and started hesitantly, his green eyes sparkling with mixed feelings. "Seamist," he twined his tail, shimmering with starlight. "You must stop spending your time grieving for me," he stopped for a moment and continued, his voice was pained. "Glacierfrost loves you...and I know...you will too - in time." He made an effort to smile, but didn't do so very well. "I will always love you, but you can't ignore the things happening around you."
He turned away for a second and took a deep breath before he meowed, "I know you're starting to love him too. I don't blame you, since I'm in StarClan...so make the best out of the situation." He gave her ear a gentle lick.

Seamist's eyes widened at the mention of Glacierfrost. sure, he was a good friend, but had she ever thought of him as something more? Guiltily, she found that in her heart of hearts, she had to agree. She leaned into his starry shoulder, not flinching even as her fur met his icy, yet burning pelt. She was in no mood to agree, but she knew that he was right. "They'll be glad to know that you're still with us," she whispered. What she would never tell him was the hurt and longing that they would feel when she told him - he knew them too well.
