Pantherclaw was wading in the shallow edge of the riverbank, watching a Water-Vole nibble on some grass. He quickly dropped into a crouching position, and stalked towards it. It didn't notice a thing, Pantherclaw pounced on it, killed it quickly, and sat down with his new kill.
"There's one to add to the fresh-kill pile." sighs Pantherclaw, pawing at the kill.
He was bored of catching fish and Water-Voles, he wanted some thick juicy meat. But their wasn't any land animals in the air that he could scent out. So he went back to fishing, and caught two fish.

Hazeltear wandered over to the river. She preferred open water to the forest, and the river had always calmed her when she had needed some time alone. Sighing, she sat down a ways away from Pantherclaw, oblivious, as she dipped her paw into the water. "There's one to add to the fresh-kill pile." Hazeltear's ears pricked up as she heard yet another unfamiliar voice. Was I really away for THAT long? she wondered, as she turned around. "Hey there," she mewed, in a friendly tone. In her head, she was groaning. Oh StarClan, please, don't let this tom be one like that Icehawk.

Pantherclaw quickly jumped to his paws, and scanned the surrounding area. He noticed a pretty tortoise-shelled-white cat approach him. He hear her say "Hello", and didn't want to be rude so answered her greeting.
"Hey!" mewed Pantherclaw, letting his massive muscles relax as he approached the cat.
"I don't believe I've seen you before, let me introduce myself." started Pantherclaw with a friendly look on his face, "I'm Pantherclaw."

OOC: Hey, you knew that she was a tortie! Awesome. xD Hazeltear relaxed as Pantherclaw approached. "I'm Hazeltear," she mewed warmly. So he's not too stuck-up to say hi, she thought in relief. "How are you?" She was currently in a good mood, having finally managed to savage her brother for shoving mud up her muzzle. Daintily, she padded over to the shallows, and waded into the river. This is what I live for, she thought, as her paws jabbed at passing fish. Her curved claws hooked into her prey, allowing her to toss it onto the bank with ease. I'd better catch at least three more before I leave, she thought, remembering the fact that there were so many kits in the Clan this season - including Midnightstar.

Nice to meet you Hazeltear, I'm fine, I just came to catch a little prey before heading back to the clan." answered Pantherclaw, not taking his eyes of her.
He noticed her wade into the water, and fish out a pretty nice sized fish.
"Nice catch!" said Pantherclaw, edging back over to his kill.
"Is there a reason you came here?" asked Pantherclaw, licking his flank fur down.

Hazeltear foud herself warming to the black tom as he praised her catch. "Thanks," she purred, as she skillfully flicked another fish onto the bank. Annoyance tempered her joy, however; she could feel her long, tortoiseshell fur soaking up the water like a sponge, which happened every time she set foot - or paw, rather - in the river. It would take hours, sometimes even days for her pelt to dry, and it was usually stiff for days after.
"No reason," Hazeltear replied, surprised, as she caught Pantherclaw's next question. "I just felt like going to the river to relax, like I always do." She went on, sighing: "Don't you just love how calm it is around here? Just you, the water, and the empty sky..." She caught herself before she could go on; it was clear that she was going to embarrass herself sooner or later. "So - why are you here?"
OOC: Aiie. Messy post. >.<'

"Same reason as you, I love the water. In all it's serenity and peacefulness." answered Pantherclaw, staring into the horizon, then to Hazeltear.
He suddenly felt hot under his thick pelt, and started licking his chest nervously. He was afraid to catch the she-cat's mystical gaze. It seemed to leave him trembling for some reason, even though it was there first meet.
"Mind if I join you in catching some fish?" asks Pantherclaw, already wading into the water.

Hazeltear grinned slightly. "It's nice to find someone who agrees with me on that," she meowed. "My brother thinks I'm crazy - he'd choose trees over water any day." She continued to splash about in the water, flicking fish after fish onto the bank. Her ears flicked as she heard Pantherclaw ask if he could join her. "No, I don't mind at all, seeing as you're here already," the tortoiseshell she-cat answered. "The more fresh-kill for the Clan, the better." Hazeltear's sharp, green eyes - identical to her mother's - could tell that the tom was beginning to feel awkward in her presence. She sighed mentally - yes, she was pretty, but she hated being fawned over like some kittypet, and she already had a mate. If this cat got any ideas like the last tom, she'd have to leave. "Have you seen Silversun around?" she interjected suddenly, hoping to scare off any romantic notions.

Pantherclaw slashed out a couple fish from the river, then looked over to Hazeltear.
"Um, no I haven't I'm afraid." replied Pantherclaw, going back to the river.
He quickly picked out to more fish, and gathered up all the fresh-kill he had caught.
"I'm going to be heading back right about now, would you like to come, ore keep getting more fish for the clan?" asked Pantherclaw, lifting the fresh-kill into his mouth.

"Ah, well," Hazeltear mewed. "I bet he's at camp." She glanced back at the mounds of fish that she and Pantherclaw had caught. "Yes, I think I'll go too, before the entire river is fished out." She splashed over to the bank, shaking her soggy fur, as water sprayed everywhere. "Oh, I'm sorry - did I get you wet?" she teased, green eyes brimming with laughter. Not waiting for a reply, she grabbed three fish with her mouth and slung one over her shoulders, taking care not to let it fall onto the ground. Cats would be eating that, after all, and she certainly wouldn't like dirt in her food. "Let's go!" she mumbled, with a mouth full of fish.

"It's okay." replies Pantherclaw through the mouth of fish, shaking the water off him, though he could care less about it.
Soon they were heading through the thick brush by the river, heading towards camp. But Pantherclaw stopped, and sniffed the air suspiciously.
"Wait, do you smell.....fox?" asked Pantherclaw, his muscles tensing up.
The scent was quite fresh, so fresh that he could follow the trail the fox had taken.

Hazeltear froze at the word 'fox', and stiffened even further as the familiar scent wafted past her nostrils. "You're right," she breathed. "And there's a milk scent, which means she has kits." She turned to Pantherclaw, pale green eyes wide with alarm. Her tortoiseshell fur began to bristle as she mewed, "Should we tell Midnightstar - I mean, Twilightsong, or check it out ourselves?" If it was only one adult, the two warriors probably could have scared it off themselves and reported it to the deputy, who would have increased patrols along the border and left it at that. However, if this she-fox thought that they were attacking her kits, she might become enraged - and angry foxes were the most dangerous. Her kits would also have to be scared off the territory - baby foxes grew up and became adult foxes, and one would be enough to kill a cat.

Pantherclaw though for a long while, then finally concluded with an answer.
"I think it would be safest to fight it off now while it's now before it's kits get older." replies Pantherclaw solemnly.
Pantherclaw's fur on his neck began to bristle, and his eyes became deep with courage.
"Come on, we'll bury our kill in the ground, and come back for it after we're done dealing with the fox." continues Pantherclaw, digging a hole for his kill, and burying quickly again.
He sniffed the air once more, and began to follow the fresh fox scent.

Hazeltear hesitated for a moment. She admired her Clanmate's courage, but as for herself...she was more inclined to think it through for more than a few heartbeats. What he says is true, she thought solemnly. I suppose the only way IS to fight the fox. I just hope her kits aren't too big yet... The tortoiseshell warrior buried her catch, and covered it with dirt. She then stood up and padded after Pantherclaw, hoping that things would bode well. As she and her Clanmate trotted briskly through the forest, the scent became sharper. "We're close," she hissed - her nostrils were filled with the stench of foxes. She halted suddenly, right in front of a large hole in the ground. The scent was concentrated around the entrance, as well as in the hole. Her fur began to bristle as she watched a copper-colored muzzle peek out from its hiding place. Silently, she dashed over and lashed out with outstretched claws, in time to see the fox's amber eyes staring balefully at her.

Pantherclaw's large muscles tensed tightly, and began to sprang. He pounced onto the fox with unsheathed and deadly claws with Hazeltear. He found an opening in the Fox's chest, and leaped there. He sank his claws into the fox's chest, and dug his huge teeth into her chest. The fox began kicking and snapping at the two ShoreClan cats, trying to shake them off. The fox got hold of Pantherclaw's neck, and tossed him into the dirt. Pantherclaw had a cut on his paw, but didn't pay much attention to how much it hurt and stung.
