OOC: Welcome back. xD Nightpaw's whiskers twitched in excitement as he slid smoothly into the hunter's crouch. He nearly mewed, "Like this?" before he realized that the mouse would be able to hear him, and bit his lip. His tail-tip twitched slightly as he glided over the ground, steadily padding towards his prey. I can't screw this up - now now, he thought, somewhat desperately, as he saw the mouse freeze. He quickly but silently cleared the last few steps, and pounced, catching it squarely between his paws. Thank StarClan, he breathed, as he bit into the now-slightly-flattened mouse, killing it. He checked to make sure that there was no more prey in the immediate area, and then turned to his mentor. "How was that?" he asked, slightly nervously. His ears pounded, as the thrill of his first hunt rushed through him - it had been so exhilarating!

Wildstorm's eyes were riveted on Nightpaw as she watched him slide into a hunter's crouch. Her ears flicked with impressed suprise as she watched him kill a mouse with as much skill as the oder apprentices. He's a natural. she thought. She padded towards him. "Very good." She purred. "You're making my job too easy." She looked around. "Alright. What next? Birds or squirrels? Your moving along so quickly, Your training could be over in a day." She tesed him, whiskers twitching.

Nightpaw scuffled his paws in embarassment, although inside he warmed at the praise. He looked up, amber eyes shining, as he mewed earnestly, "I'd like to know how to hunt squirrels." The young tom's dark fur was beginning to bristle with excitement - he hadn't known that being an apprentice was so fun! You realize that you have to do chores until you become a warrior, right? the rational part of his mind reminded him. Just wait 'til you have to clean out the elders' den. He swept those negative (and very logical) thoughts aside as he fought to keep himself from running around in circles. He was just so...excited!

Wildstorm purred and nodded. "Squirrels it is, then." Quickly, she turned and settled into a squirrel hunting crouch. "Ok." She said, motioning for Nightpaw to pay attention. "Squirrels are kind of like mice. They can fell you approaching, but not as much as mice. They also have good hearing, so you have to concentrate on being quick and silent. Luckily though, they can't see very well." She demonstrated how to stalk a squirrel. She paced forward, faster than stalking a mouse but a little heavier on her paws. She turned back to Nightpaw. "Another thing you have to remember is that if they sense you, their first reaction is to freeze. After a second, it will run up a tree. But that second of pausing gives you time to punce on it if you're close enough." She looked around until she found a squirrel nibbling a seed not far off. "Give it a try." She said with a grin.

Nightpaw glared at the squirrel in question. You're not getting away - oh, no, he thought, as he slid smoothly into the hunter's crouch. His muscles rippled under his dark fur as he slunk forwards, putting down each paw delicately before moving on. The dark apprentice tensed, ready to pounce - when he saw another shape rustling in the grass. The squirrel froze, staring directly at him. Nightpaw leaped desperately, but the squirrel had already overcome its paralysis and bolted up a tree. He whirled around, bounding after the mouse, managing to catch it squarely between his paws before it streaked away. Nightpaw was disappointed - after all, he had been trying to catch the squirrel, not the mouse, and it had been a rather messy kill. He lowered his amber gaze, staring down at his paws, as he waited form Wildstorm to berate him.

Wildstorm watched as Nightpaw once again slid smoothly into a hunting crouch. She gazed at him as he crept forward, right at the squirrel in question. She tensed as he prepared to spring, then her ears twitched in shock as something rustled in the bushes. The squirrel froze. Nightpaw leaped. The mouse ran from the bushes. Wildstorm let out a breath as Nightpaw missed the squirrel, but pricked her ears when he dashed after the mouse. She watched as he trapped it and killed it. Well done. She thought, impressed. She padded over to Nightpaw where he stood with his gaze lowered as if in shame. "What's that look for?" She asked him, flicking his ears with her tail. "That was fantastic. You had enough wit to go after the mouse after you knew you lost the squirrel. Other warriors would have just given them both up after they missed the squirrel, but you thought faster. Even if it was a messy kill, you still got it, right? Come on, chin up." She told him firmly.

Nightpaw looked up at his mentor in surprise. "Y-yes, right," he managed to stammer out, as he straightened up. He had expected some sort of harsh rebuke, but had received praise instead. I'm lucky to have such an understanding mentor, he thought, as he sank down into the hunter's crouch yet again. He could still scent squirrel - the fluffballs were everywhere - so he swiveled his ears in an attempt to pinpoint one using his hearing. There, he thought, as he whirled around and pounced on a squirrel half-hidden in a bush. He let out a triumphant mrrow as he swiftly bit its neck, and then slapped his tail to his mouth as he realized that he might have scared off potential prey. "Whoops," he whispered. He scented the air again, hoping to find more prey, when an unfamiliar stench hit his scent glands. It was putrid, to be sure, and had an oily base. "What's that scent?" he mewed, turning to his mentor.

ooc - What is that scent? O.o XD
Wildstorm watched approvingly as Nightpaw brightened back up and once again started stalking his prey. She scented a squirrel hiding behind him at the same time as he whirled and launched himself into the bushes. She smiled happily as he straightened up with a freshly killed squirrel. "Well done." She appraised him. Her ears pricked when he asked her what that smell was. Padding over to him, she parted her jaws and inhaled, carefully tasing the air. She wrinkled her nose as the putrid smell. "I don't know." She said thoughtfully, swinging her head from side to side to see where the smell was coming from. "Why don't you try to track it?"

OOC: I'm SO SORRY I've been missing for so long. -Hides- And the smell...I dunno, I was hoping you could lead off of that. Let's just say some forgetful Twoleg left their trash somewhere in the forest. xD Nightpaw glowed with his mentor's praise, but that was soon overpowered by nervousness, tinged with fear. Wildstorm doesn't know what that is...and she's a senior warrior! Needless to say, the dark apprentice was a worrywart, even at the best of times. Why don't you try to track it? "M-m...me?" Nightpaw stuttered. "But what if it's really dangerous and - " He stopped himself. Or rather, his thoughts did. You sound like such a mouse-brained coward! snarled his inner self. Go and get yourself a spine before Wildstorm notices how useless you are. He cleared his throat. "I mean, sure!" he mewed, just a bit too brightly. "In fact, I'd love to!" Nightpaw hoped his mentor couldn't hear the quiver in his voice as he bounded off, in pursuit of the unknown smell he was beginning to fear more and more with every step he took.

ooc - Oh... hehe. XD I thought you were going to do something with that. Oh well... It can just be some twoleg something.
Wildstorm followed Nightpaw into the bushes. She placed her paws carefully and kept her jaws parted to make sure he was on the right track. She flicked her ears forward as she heard the river flowing closer. She padded after him for a few more foxlengths, and then she stopped. "Oh." She said as she caught a new scent. "Nightpaw," she called to him "Can you smell that other smell? It was overlayed with a different scent, but you can smell it now. It's the smell of Twolegs." She veered off of the path and bounded over towards the river. As she neared the bank, she saw what it was. Some twoleg trash, and it looked like it was rotting or decaying. She wrinked her nose at the foul smell. "Twoleg trash." She said, shaking her head in disgust.
ooc - WOW. I'm really sorry for the sloppy RPing. D: My muse is running on empty right now.

OOC: I've decided that trash is too tame. Hope ya don't mind. x3 OH. Mightpaw's ears flattened in embarrassment. "R-right. It was just Twoleg trash." He tried to laugh it off, but all that came out was a weak chuckle. He berated himself silently as he shuffled his dark paws together, directing his amber gaze at the ground. After several heartbeats, curiosity overcame his shame. He tipped his head, inspecting this new development carefully. It smelled oddly edible - almost like fresh-kill...without the -fresh. Well, it had probably been food before it had rotted away. I wonder if anyone else has found this, he thought absently. After all, even if they had, as it posed no threat at all, they probably wouldn't have bothered to move it.
He would discover how wrong he was very soon.
At that very moment, a pair of amber eyes was watching the twosome, carefully plotting out its next move. If all went well, there would be fresh cat meat on the menu tonight... The fox carefully stalked forwards, so quietly that it would break any warrior's heart. Its long, pink tongue lolled out, not quite panting, as it crept ever closer. Thick streaks of mud coated its usually orange pelt, disguising its scent. This fox was crafty...as, well, a fox. And he wanted food NOW.
