Scarletstar's shoulder's stiffened and her eyes widened minutely as she heard the news from Forestwind - no, Foreststar now. She stood frozen in place for a few moments, her mind a chaotic swirl of emotions and thoughts. Hawkstar... gone? That seemed impossible... she had been leader of ForestClan for as long as Scarletstar remembered. It seemed foolish, but Scarletstar thought that she would be the timeless leader of ForestClan, until she was taken by death or she was killed. It seemed so unbelievable that she would just quit.
After a few seconds, Scarletstar realized the Foreststar had started the gathering. Composing her feelings, she smoothed her expression into an unreadable mask. It would do no good to show all the Clan cats how much this news hurt her. But behind her hard expression, her heart was aching. I just wish I would have got to say goodbye. She thought, jaw clenched to keep her emotions in check.
Blitzfire nodded in greeting to Lilywish, a small smile flashing across his maw. "Hello, Lilywish." He purred, his tail flicking lazily. "Everything's well with me. How about you?" But just as he finished speaking, a yowl from the greatrock stalled further conversation. Pricking his ears, she pulled himself to his paws, eager to hear the news from ForestClan.
At first, what Foreststar said didn't make any sense. Hawkstar gone? Forever? She must be joking. Hawkstar wouldn't just quit... would she? Blitzfire's limbs froze for a couple moments, then he shook his head slowly. "Is this true?" He asked Lilywish, his eyes giving away how desperately he wanted her to say no.
Wildstorm nodded to Lambpaw and Arrowpaw, a small smile flickering across her muzzle, briefly obscuring the mask of worry. "Hello, Lambpaw. My name is Wildstorm." Before she could say more however, Foreststar called the gathering to order and gave the news of Hawkstar's resignation. Wildstorm closed her eyes and switched her ears back, feeling a fresh wave of pain wash over her. Taking a few deep breaths, she forced open her eyes again. "She did what needed to be done." She murmured to herself, her eyes sad.
Yinpaw nodded in greeting to Ripplestream and Mousepaw. She blinked when she noticed Ripplestream's mood... she seemed a lot more sullen than usual. "It's ok." She told Mousepaw quickly. When he offered his condolences, she just nodded. "She did what she needed to do." She said simply, wrapping her tail around her paws with more wisdom in her eyes that a cat her age should have.
